Objectif 3D, a school for the digital arts

16/04/2024

This Montpellier-based school of higher education has specialized in 3D cinema, VFX, video games, and programming since 1999.

Located in Montpellier’s Agropolis science park, Objectif 3D offers three vocationally oriented Bachelor’s degree programs: 3D Animation & VFX, Game Art & Design, and Programming.

Founded in 1999, the school is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2024. Objectif 3D benefits from several highly distinctive features: 1) It was the first school in Montpellier to offer a specialized Bachelor’s degree in programming. 2) It was also the first to be authorized by Epic Games for its Unreal Engine game engine. Objective 3D trains specialists in very specific professions, notably Chara Designer, Texture Artist, Lighter, FX Artist, Game/Level Designer, 3D Animator, Environment Artist, and AI programmer.

“Today, the school is well-known for its third-year  student films in the Animation and VFX Bachelor programs at national and international festivals. In addition, the games presented by our students in their third year of the Game Art & Design and Programming Bachelor programs are all entirely produced in-house and available on our Steam page,” adds Mathilde Fayette Durand, Objectif 3D’s Head of Strategy and Communications.

These distinctive qualities inspire leading national and international studios to recruit at Objectif 3D. Among its 1,300 alumni who regularly come back to attend workshops, some have gone on to work for Weta FX in New Zealand, nWave Digital in Belgium, Framestore and Rocket Sciences in Canada, and Dwarf Animation Studio and Ubisoft in France. “For example, Milk VFX has set up a studio in Bordeaux with our Film class of 2023,” adds Mathilde Fayette Durand.

Also providing ongoing education courses, Objectif 3D offers studios modular options for improving their teams’ skills on the Unreal Engine through the Objectif 3D training center.
